Use PartForge in Claude and ChatGPT

Connect PartForge to your AI assistant and it can design parametric 3D parts in your PartForge account: create and edit forges, build them, show them in a live 3D viewer inside the chat, and publish them when you’re happy.

The connector address

Both apps ask for this when you add PartForge.

https://www.partforge.ai/mcp

You’ll need a PartForge account. If you don’t have one, connecting walks you through signing up.

Connect in Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Add a custom connector named PartForge, with the address above.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to PartForge, and approve the connection.

Add it on the web or the desktop app; it then appears in Claude on your phone too. Claude’s free plan allows one custom connector.

Connect in ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the left sidebar, then click Add at the top right.
  2. Choose Create MCP App, name it PartForge, and paste the address above.
  3. Sign in to PartForge and approve the connection.

Connect in Claude Code

  1. In a terminal, run:claude mcp add --transport http PartForge https://www.partforge.ai/mcp
  2. In Claude Code, run /mcp, choose PartForge, and sign in to PartForge in the browser window that opens.
  3. Approve the connection. The page calls it “an app on this computer”, because PartForge can’t tell which app on your computer is asking.

The live 3D viewer appears in Claude and ChatGPT. In Claude Code, ask the assistant for renders instead.

Things to ask

  • “Make me a parametric belt buckle and show it in 3D.”
  • “Add a rounded slot to my phone stand, then show me the result.”
  • “Search the PartForge library for a hinge I could reuse in my box.”
  • “Render my cable clip from the top and side so I can check the fit.”
  • “Publish my cable clip with a short description.”

What your assistant can do

Create and edit forges
The assistant writes and edits a forge's code, then builds it on PartForge so you know it works. Every edit is saved to the forge's history, just as it is in the editor.
Show the live 3D viewer
The forge opens in PartForge's viewer right in the chat. Orbit it, try its settings, and press Keep Settings to save the values you like, or Open in PartForge to carry on in the editor.
Check the result
It can render a forge from any angle and read the build's checks, so it sees what it made before telling you it's done.
Reuse the library and docs
It searches the public PartForge library for parts to build on, and reads PartForge's documentation when it needs a detail.
Publish and share
It can update a forge's name and listing, publish it, or make it private again. Your chat app asks you to confirm every publish before it happens.

Plans and limits

The connector works on every PartForge plan, including Free. Your assistant does the thinking on your Claude or ChatGPT plan, so connecting doesn’t use your PartForge AI usage. Builds and renders run on PartForge and have an hourly and a daily limit, which is higher on paid plans. If you reach one, the assistant says when you can build again. See the plans.

What PartForge sees

Connecting gives the assistant the same access to your forges as you have when you’re signed in. PartForge never sees your conversation, only the requests the assistant makes: which forge to open, the code changes to make, the settings to keep. What those requests return, such as a forge’s code, its renders and its build results, goes to the assistant, and Anthropic’s or OpenAI’s own privacy policy covers what happens to it there. PartForge logs each request without its content (which app, which tool, which forge, when, and how it went) and keeps that log for 90 days. The privacy policy has the details.

Disconnect

In PartForge, open Settings → Connected apps and choose Disconnect. The assistant stops renewing its access at once, though a sign-in it already holds can keep working for up to an hour. You can also remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT.

If something goes wrong

The viewer says to reconnect PartForge
Disconnect the connector in your chat app and connect it again.
The build service is unavailable
It’s usually brief. Ask the assistant to try again in a minute.
Something else
Get in touch. You can also ask the assistant to report the problem to the PartForge team, and it will send the details.
